2026 CAAC Singles Bowling Championships

 

CAAC Singles Tournament Format

Welcome to the 2026 CAAC Singles Bowling Championships. Our bowlers will compete in two divisions today using a format that mirrors that of the upcoming MHSAA Regional Tournament. Schools entered a maximum of six boys and six girls for today’s event.


Thank you to the coaches of our CAAC bowling programs. They devote so much time to our bowlers with little (or no) pay and are vital to the future of high school bowling. Also, thank you  to each of the volunteers who helped make today’s event possible. Finally, thank you to the staff of Royal Scot for hosting the tournament.

8:30 a.m. Coaches Meeting in the Lounge

8:40 a.m. Announcements & National Anthem

8:50 a.m. Warm-ups (10 minutes)

9:00 a.m. Begin Scoring

A 30-45 minute lunch break will be given after qualifying.
Match Play Lanes will be reoiled during the lunch break.
Bowlers will be allowed to throw 2 balls on each lane prior to match play beginning.

No warm ups will be allowed after the first match play game.

 

Spectator Policies

It is great to have parents, friends, and family here as spectators. We ask you observe the following courtesies during competition.

-        Enthusiasm and cheering is welcome, please make ALL cheers positive and in support of your school’s bowler – do not direct remarks at other bowlers – Good sportsmanship is appreciated.

-        Noisemakers (whistles, air-horns, etc) are not permitted.

-        Flash photography is not allowed, please turn the flash off from cameras and smartphones.

-        Only coaches, bowlers, or officials are allowed in the bowling area.

No alcohol consumption allowed by spectators during the competition.

 

Miscellaneous Information

USBC equipment rules and MHSAA regulations will govern the competition. All disputes will be handled on-site by the tournament manager.

There will be 10 minutes of practice before qualifying.

Lane assignments were processed when entries were received. You will be notified of your starting lanes at check-in.

 

FORMAT:

·       Each participant will bowl a six-game qualifying block in the morning. Athletes will all be moving right – skipping one pair - after each game.

·       The top 16 boys and top 16 girls will qualify for the afternoon match play.

·       Ties for the top 16 places will be broken using the most recent game bowled in the qualifying round, game 6, then game 5, etc.

·       Match play matches will consist of one game, total pins, until the top 4 athletes remain in each division. Semi-Finals and Finals match play will be two games, total pins.

·       Pairings will be seeded by the morning qualifying round pinfall, 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc.

·       The bracketed match play round will be single elimination.

·       Medals will be given to places 1-4 in each division. 

·       “Match play format” is as follows: the bowler assigned to the left lane starts the match and bowls (1) complete frame. Then the bowler on the right will bowl (2) Consecutive frames. both bowlers then take turns bowling (2) consecutive frames at a time till the completion of the game.

·       Ties in the match game round will be broken with a 9-10 frame roll-off.

Oil Pattern – The MHSAA Lane condition is the Kegel Phantom II Pattern.

Coaching – A maximum of two coaches per gender will be allowed admission. There can only be TWO coaches per gender allowed in the bowling area during competition. Coaches are expected to follow the dress code and exemplify proper sportsmanship. Coaches are not allowed on the approaches, as per MHSAA rules, coaching should take place between frames only.

Paddock Area – Bowlers will use the Lounge area as paddock area.

Line-up Changes – Line up changes will be taken care of at check-in.

Admission/Spectators – Admission Fee is $5 per spectator. Infant-Preschool age and Senior Citizens are Free.

Equipment - Participants shall be limited to a maximum of FIVE bowling balls in the bowling center, and TWO balls in the bowler’s area. Additional bowling balls should be kept in the paddock area. A bowler may not leave the center to get other balls during competition. Equipment changes will be allowed during competition. Bowling balls must be on the USBC approved ball list to be used in MHSAA competition.

Ball Cleaning – Players may not alter the surface of the ball with abrasives or apply cleaner after competition begins. USBC Rule 18 has been rescinded. Starting August 1, 2022, bowlers are no longer allowed to use isopropyl alcohol to clean a bowling ball once competition has started. Cleaning or polishing a ball is allowed with a dry (no pre-soaked products) cloth. Using rosin for grip is allowed, but the ball must be wiped clear.

Competition Area – Only the bowlers who are in the lineup and are currently competing are allowed in the bowlers seating area.
